Local Government Registries Vs Ministry of Interior Update

Federal High Court Removes Legal obstacle to stop/seal Ikoyi Marriage Registry and other established by Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The Federal High Court last Thursday remove all legal obstacle and fixed September 27th as the final hearing date to decide either to stop/seal all Federal established Marriage Registry in Nigeria, Justice Chuka Obiozor, presiding over the Suit: FHC/L/CS/1760/16  allowed on the instance of Local Government lead counsel Roger Adedimeji Michael, a joinder application from  Olumide Babalola Esq. the counsel that obtain the Lagos High Court controversial Judgment giving by Justice Harrison of the Lagos State High Court on the 15th of June 2017.
Counsel to the Local Governments Roger M.A Esq. implored the court to hear and dispose the matter as quick as possible because of the misrepresentation of the media and the Federal Ministry of Interior that Local Government cannot register marriages again, when indeed the Court restated the power of Local Government to register Marriages.
This instant Suit is seeking for a Court order to stop the established Federal Registry by Ministry of Interior from registration of Marriage Act and to seal up all the offices opened and referred to as Federal Marriage Registry, also by the Motion filed by  Attorney-General and Minister of Justice it seems we may witness the victory of the Local Government in the Suit, as the AG indeed stated in the Motion filed by Dayo Apata Esq. counsel to the Hon AG on the 22nd May 2017, that Federal Marriage Registries functions in the marriage Act is limited to issuance of licenses to Religion places of worship to celebrate marriages and safe keeping of the document so licensed and not to register marriages which is made an exclusive function of the Local Government by Fourth Schedule 1(i) function of Local Government 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
With this development, giving the nature of the matter, the Federal High Court may give final Judgment  by October 2017.
